The Color Purple

The Color Purple written by Alice Walker is an outstanding novel. It has many life lessons that you can learn from. It it very detailed and explains every situation so you could not be lost. I love the way Celie began to stand up for herself and stepped out of the general women role. This showed that Celie  is a very strong women. I would choose the book over the movie because you wouldn’t get the same excitement and specific details as if you just watched the movie. This is a classic and one of the best African American literature known to man.

The Color Purple

There are many differences between the book and the novel of The Color Purple written by Alice Walker. In the book Celie and Shug have a very intimate relationship but as in the movie it is very dormant which would make the person that is watching think there was nothing between them. The movie is more emotional but does not go into detail which the novel does. Also the novel is strictly letters to God which in the movie she doesn’t at all. In the book Shug Avery was described as a very dark woman but in the movie she is brown skin . Also in the movie it lacked to the show the transformation of Mister but in the book he changed to be another type of man . The movie is lacking key details and scenes that the book has that helps the reader get a better understanding of the situation.

With all the differences between the book and the novel they have a couple similarities. A similarity in the book and movie is that Celie’s father raped her. She had two kids and they are given away to a family that couldn’t have kids.  Womanhood is also in the novel and the movie and it showed through   Celie. In both the novel and the movie the viewer could gain many lessons from it . I feel as if the novel was better because it provided more details than the movie .

King Lear No Fear Review

King Lear No Fear is a interesting tragedy. There were many times in this book when you could connect the book to real life situations. Although this book was very predictable at times it showed you life lessons and morals that should be known through life. This book has many themes inside of it such as greed, blindness, power, and plenty more. In my opinion I think William Shakespeare did a good job with setting the mood throughout the book and also with the tone. I enjoyed reading this book with my classmates as we read the book together as if we were the characters in the book. I would recommend this book to someone who was looking for a great tragedy.

A lie that caused one young man and his family their lives

Once upon a time there was a king and he gathered the best players for a rugby team. He had the best of the best, the strongest of the strong and the fastest of the fast.One day the king went up to a skinny peasant. The king stated that the peasant had to build a rugby team that would beat is or that him and his team would die.   He only had a week to do so. The young peasant went village to village gathering all of his cousins. Telling them that the king had invited him and the people of his choice to play in a fun game of rugby. He knew if he had told his cousins that this game of rugby was a life and death game that they would not participate in it. He told them if they were to win that the king would give them a big reward. Of course as one should be his cousins was eager to participate. They practiced day and night trying to get better but it just wasn't working.The little family knew what they was up against.After long days and nights the day was finally here. Everyone was excited except for the young man he knew his life was over. When the team had stepped foot in the stadium the king shouted "Are you ready to die". The family was looking confused on why the king had said that. So, finally the truth had came out as the young man explained to his family what had happened. The cousins were shocked and scared. The outcome of the game is the one that was expected the kings team had won as the little family was destroyed. Before the king killed the family he asked the young man why did he lie to his family. Before he could respond the floor from under them had dropped and they were hung.


MORAL: The truth will set you free because if you lie you could hurt yourself and others.

Women In Medieval Society

Women in medieval society played the traditional women role. They cared for the children, attended the livestock, and also cooked the food. When it was time to bring the crops in the women would join their husbands in the field. Just as rural women helped with their husbands' work, urban women assisted their fathers and husbands in a wide variety of trades and crafts, including the production of textiles, leather goods, and metal work, as well as running shops and inns. Women were thought to be weaker than men because of Eve eating the forbidden fruit,which caused men to be banned from paradise. Back then the role of women was decided upon biblical texts. This forbidded women from teaching. Women that did have power had very little direction that their lives went.

Letter To An Advice Column

Dear Advice Columnist,

   My name is Grant Wiggins. I am a black school teacher but, I have a more serious problem than a math question. I have to turn a "hog" as the courthouse says to a man before he is put to rest.The problem is though I simply do not know how to do it. Every time I try to talk to him he either does not respond or says it doesn't matter. He is acting like a hog because they called him one. I really need some assistance could someone please help me ?

Chapter 5 and 6 Quotations

Chapter 5.

1.Page 39

1."Do you all know what is going on in Bayonne?"

This shows a conflict in the children's knowledge. They do not know what is happening to Jefferson and why. If they knew he reason they would stop playing and get their education. Later Grant explains what is going to happen to Jefferson. This sets a image in the students heads. Now that they know they stopped playing and will try to get their education so they could escape the white man's power.

2.Page 33

" The lord is my Shepard, I shall not want".

The theme is faith. This quote is basically saying God has your back. Anything you need the Almighty God will get it for you. Faith is something they needed back then.

Chapter 6.

1.Page 43

"Smart Man"

This quote characterizes Mr. Henri Pichot at the time. This quote really explains itself. It characterizes him just at this time though. He believed that Grant could get Jefferson ready to die. But, he did not know if that task would be done. This is why he did not bet against them but also did not bet with them.

Chapter 5-6 discussion questions

Chapter5

1.The church was the meeting place for the black children school.

2.The school only met for 5 and a half months because the rest of the year the children was needed in the fields.

3.He wanted to put that in the children's head. He did not do that to scare the children but to motivate them in a type of way.

4. Mr.Ferrel came to Grant at the school to tell him that he would be able to visit Jefferson.

1. Grant has gone to Mr.Pichot's house.

3.Enda makes Grant reach in order to shake her hand to show that she is above him. To show her superiority.

Chapter 3

"Am I supposed to go in there to"-page 17

This quote relates to the theme freedom. By Grant going back in that house to be specific that back door reminds him that once upon of time he was not free. Once you are a free man you would not want to remember anything that makes you recall the times that you were a slave. He never wanted to go through that back door ever again. Merely because he said he was to educated  to be there.

This quote also represents a conflict. It represents a self conflict. He now thinks he is to good to walk in that house. He is to educated to be there. But, he simply has to put his pride to the side for a good cause although he does not want to.

Chapter 3-4 Discussion Questions

Chapter3

1. By Mr.Henri saying he did it this redirects the plot narrative in many ways. This still shows the separation between the races still. Due to the fact of what time frame it is in a black person saying he didn't do anything means nothing. A white person would always think a black person is guilty of a crime like this.

2. When Grant said "She was looking at me but not seeing me" anyone could interpret that many ways. I think Grant is implying that she was looking at him but not thinking about him. Miss Emma's mind is on Jefferson. She keeps thinking about when they called him a hog. When Miss Emma keeps saying that he doesn't have to go she is trying to make Grant feel guilty. By making him feel guilty of course he is going to go.

3. The plantation symbolizes many things for Grant an his aunt. Although the biggest thing it symbolizes is slavery. This is the place where they had 0 freedom. The back door rankled Grant for many reasons. Before he went off to college his aunt told him that she never wanted to go through that back door never again.

4. Miss Emma prevails on Mr.Henri in a strong way. She repeatedly says " I done did a lot for this family". This makes him think on all the good she has done by that family. She is trying to persuade Mr.Henri on trying to let Grant turn Jefferson into a man.

Chapter4

1.By the narrator saying "slaughterhouse mostly for hogs" it expands and echo's on the public defenders summation in many ways. It alludes to the fact that the public defender wanted him dead as well. If there was a slaughterhouse mostly for hogs in town why would you compare the person you are defending as one.

2. The narrator wants to leave and flee somewhere else but there is something that is holding him back. He wants to flee because he does not feel free. He thinks the only reason he is there is to live and die there. Love is the thing that holds him back. He refuses to leave without Vivian. If it wasn't for her he would have been gone.

1. Do parents ever pressure their children to achieve ? Why do you think so ?

Parents pressure their children to achieve because they want their children to be the best they can be. They do not want their kids I'm the streets, or committing crimes that would put them in bad situations. Overall more parents should continue to pressure their kids to help reduce the poverty and crime rates.

2. What are some of the conflicts that parents and children have?

One of the main conflicts parents and children have are their friends. Parents are skeptical about who their kids hang with because they think they are bad influences. In my case sometimes my mother questions some of my friends I hang with, but I make he lose suspicion by keeping my grades up.

3. Do you feel that people can be anything they want to be?

I feel if people put their mind to something they can be anything they want to be. To often today many people give up because they cannot handle the work needed to be done to be successful. There will be many road block along the journey, but success was never promised to be easy.

4. Do all conflicts have a winner?

I believe some conflicts do have a winner and some do not have one. I say this because some people are unyielding to what others have to say and is not willing to resolve a conflict. Although, there are some people who will set their differences aside to make a common agreement.

5. Compare your relationship with your parents to Chinese children's relationship with their parents in China.

My relationship with my parents have a some similarities to those of Chinese families. The major similarity is that my parents are hard on me about my school work. My parents require me to take all advanced classes so I have a better chance to be successful, much like Chinese parents who are strict when it comes to grades.

1. A theme in the story, "Memories are priceless" can be supported by this quote.

2. This quote characterizes Cheryl because it shows how much her mother's memories mean to her.

Quote #2: "I'm with you always." Chapter 16 page 269

1. This quote characterizes Cheryl's mother by explaining to the reader that she didn't want her family to mourn over death. She told them this quote repeatedly to let them know that although she is dying, she will continue to be apart of them.

2. Earlier in the book, a theme that was recognized in the book was letting go and moving on. This quote indicates that Cheryl's mother wanted them to not have her death linger in their minds.

Summary

In this article they are talking about the overall problem that people are coming to this trail unprepared. Each year more and more people are coming to the PCT. This means each year more and more people are coming unprepared. In this article they are trying to convince people to come to this trail prepared. If you know this trail is very vigorous and challenging why would you come unprepared? In this article it says that if you call in and you are hurt that it will not be a guarantee that they will come and help you {Although there are park rangers out there that will assist you}.It also states that you will not be their main priority if you call in saying that you are injured. You can not get ready for this trail in a week. This trail takes months of preparation and training to get ready for. So when going on this trail make sure you have everything you need when going on a long hike like this. This article says these are some of the things you may need when going on this trail, Bandages,a map,a compass, and things of that nature. Do not bring anything you do not need on this trail.

Interesting

It takes five days to get from Taka to Rocket Llama and the two mountains are right next to each other.

Fact

Each year the number of people increases by 5%. The number of people come unprepared increases by 2% each year.

Question

If you are injured on this trail why would you not be their main priority? People safety should come first right?
